Club History
2002
The Saxons were formed in Boston, Lincolnshire at the end of 2001. At the time, the team was a hybrid of the ex Haven Raiders senior kitted side and the UCLA Renegades youth kitted team, most of whom had surpassed the maximum age for youth football.
The Roster was also bolstered by the addition of a handful of football veterans from Kings Lynn, Boston and Peterborough teams of the past.
The Saxons inaugural season proved a difficult one, as the young inexperienced side faced such Britball veterans as the Nottingham Ceasers and the Yorkshire Rams.
It was in these tough games especially where the Saxons small, largely inexperienced squad and lack of physical size proved too great a hurdle to overcome and despite an abundance of heart and fight, the young team were unable to win a single game.
However, despite losing heavily in both matches against eventual Division champions the Yorkshire Rams the Saxons managed two credible draws, one at home to the Glasgow Tigers, and another on the road against the Ceasers.
The Saxons earned plaudits from their 2002 opposition, for their never say die attitude and hard hitting style, and whilst unable to record a victory, the Saxons gained invaluable experience going into their 2nd season.
